Dress Code, Rules, & Policies

Our goal is to provide the highest quality dance instruction and to uphold a professional caliber.  Whether a student is pursuing a dance career or just wanting the finest instruction for recreational purposes, Dance Gallery is the studio of choice.  We want your experiences here to be educational, inspirational, and fun.  Dancing is an athletic activity as much as it is an art form, so to maintain a students well being as well as preserve the integrity of the studio, the forthright adherence to rules and policies is highly regarded.  Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the rules and policies.

Rules & Policies

  • No gum, food, or colored drink of any kind allowed in the classrooms (plain water is invited in the classrooms)
  • Students are expected to be early to class.  For all children's classes, students are asked to wait outside of the classroom until the teacher or assistant has invited them into class.  For older students, if the classroom is available for warm up time, we encourage you to quietly warm up in the class...as long as another class is NOT in session.
  • Dance Gallery is not set up to "police" rides to and from dance class.  We will do our best to make sure that students return to their parents in the hallway.  If your child needs to wait for a ride, we insist that students wait inside the dance studio doors for safety purposes, as we are not able to control situations which occur outside of our business doors.
  • Since Dance Gallery is located in a primarily commercial center, we request that parents bring clothing to wear over dance clothes, rather than having them walk down the street with only their tights and leotards worn on the body.
  • Historically, Dance Gallery has not found it necessary to address this issue, but this is worth mentioning.  Our studio is built on the foundation of encouraging each other to do their best.  With anything, a bit of competition is understandable, but we feel it is necessary to mention that we request that all students of Dance Gallery uphold exemplary character, treat others (students/teachers/parents/office staff) with respect, and encourage positive interaction with classmates.  Degrading comments, swearing, stealing, and harming others verbally or physically is grounds for removal from Dance Gallery.

Dress Code

In order to enhance unity and camaraderie among the students, as well as sustain a professional semblance, all students are expected to consistently abide by the dress code.  On the last lesson of each month, students will be allowed to wear the leotard of their choice.  Students MUST wear their hair in a bun for all ballet classes.  Instructors will teach students how to do this, but younger dancers will require the help of their parents.  Please ask if you have questions.

Dress Code Rules:

  • No street clothing of any kind
  • For females, hair must be worn in a bun for ballet classes, or off th neck and out of the eyes for all other classes
  • For short hair that doesn't reach the shoulders, students should wear a headband or use barrettes to secure the hair away from the face
  • For safety reasons, no jewelry or watches in class
  • Ballet slippers should be fitted like a sock, but no so tight that the toes curl up.  For younger students that are in a growth spurt, it is alright to purchase slippers with a bit of growth room
  • The last lesson of each month, students may wear any leotard the choose and may also wear skirts and legwarmers...but only on the last lesson of each month.  No sloppy dance clothing is allowed in ANY class.  Instructors will always have the final approval on your attire for class.

Where Can I Purchase Dancewear?

Rquired dancewear is stocked at the "Danceline" located at 2109 S. Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Fals.  Call 335-8242 for store hours and directions.  Dancewear can be purchased other places, but the quality tends to be poor, and there is generally no assistance for fitting shoes and clothing.
